Guru Siyag's Yoga

Question: Is there any particular, appropriate time for doing GSY meditation?

No, you can meditate whenever it is convenient for you to do so. However, Gurudev advises disciples to meditate at least once in the morning and evening.

Question: How long should I meditate? Is there any specific time limit for doing meditation?

Guru Siyag advises a 15-minute meditation for beginners. The duration can be increased up to 30 minutes during winter and in cooler climes. The Kundalini is a very powerful form of energy, and creates heat in the body when one does the practice. Increased heat in the body will not cause any discomfort in winter as it might in summer.

Gurudev advises disciples to meditate at least twice — morning and evening. If you live in a cold climate, you may meditate four to five times a day and also extend the duration of meditation to 30 minutes.

Question: Should I set an alarm for the desired time limit before I sit down to meditate?

You don’t have to set an alarm, unless you think it necessary. All you need to do before beginning meditation is pray to Gurudev asking him to help you meditate for the desired duration of time (15, 20, 30 minutes). When you do so, you will come out of a meditative state at the precise time-limit set by you. However, if your meditation breaks up before your set limit or goes on beyond the limit occasionally, do not worry about it. Your meditation routine will act like clockwork as you progress along the spiritual path.

Question: Can I interrupt my meditation if I am required to attend to something urgent?

Yes, you may. In such a situation, resume meditation after you have completed the task.

Question: Can I meditate immediately after consuming a meal? Will it cause me any harm?

Avoid meditating immediately after consuming a meal. It is not advisable to meditate on a full stomach. You should meditate 3 to 4 hours after a meal. If you meditate on a full stomach and experience pranayam (breath movements) or shirshasan (head stands), you may feel nauseated.

Question: Am I required to make any special sitting arrangement to practice GSY meditation?

No, there is no prescribed sitting arrangement for practicing GSY meditation. Sitting cross-legged on the floor is advisable but not mandatory. When sitting on the floor, one can sit on hard ground or a mat – no restrictions. One may sit on a chair, sofa / couch or bed, as per convenience. For a beginner (someone new to GSY and not spirituality in general) it is not advisable to sit against a wall or any other support nor should one lie down and do the meditation. The body of the practitioner should be free to experience yogic postures and kriya during meditation. For instance, leaning forward or backward is a common occurrence during meditation, and a back support may prevent the practitioner from experiencing this kriya. A practitioner may feel his / her head grow heavy if the kriya is obstructed. This is also why during group sessions, practitioners are asked to keep some distance between each other to allow free body movements. The meditation place (spot) can be changed as frequently as one likes.

Note: If a physical disability or acute pain prevents the practitioner from sitting upright or unsupported, one can meditate in a position that is most suitable or comfortable (for e.g. lying down).

Question: Should I face any particular direction, like East or West, to practice GSY meditation?

No, you don’t have to face any specific direction when you meditate. You may sit facing any direction you like. Gurudev’s grace is ever-present in all directions.

Question: Does a practitioner have to sit in a quiet or isolated spot to meditate?

A quiet place would be preferable but is not mandatory. Gradually, you will be able to meditate in any place as you practice meditation regularly. Very often beginners find it difficult to concentrate and focus during meditation, especially if they are in a noisy place. Someone talking loudly nearby, the roar of traffic, sound of car-horns, TV/radio blaring loud music, construction work noise, rain falling on the roof, ticking of clocks, wind blowing hard etc., can easily disturb a beginner. However, one should continue meditation without losing patience. With regular practice, you will soon find that external noises don’t disturb you any longer, and you can meditate in any situation.

Question: May I participate in group meditation with other disciples?

Yes, you can. During group meditation make sure you leave some space around you to allow for free involuntary yogic kriya. Group meditation is good because it allows participants to share their experiences with each other, and this in turn bolsters their faith and enthusiasm in the spiritual practice.

Question: What is the appropriate age for one to begin the practice of GSY?

There is no specific age as such – once a child begins to understand the method of meditation and pronunciation of the mantra, he/she can begin the practice of GSY. Children, young, middle-aged and the elderly can follow the practice.

Question: Do I have to dress in a particular way for meditation?

No, you may wear any type of clothing that you find comfortable for meditation.

Question: If I am addicted to alcohol or smoking or intoxicating drugs/substances or certain types of food such as meat, do I have to give up my habits before I begin the practice of GSY?

No, you are not required to give up any of your habits to commence practice. The divine Kundalini Shakti awakened through the practice of GSY knows the inner most secrets of your body, what the body really needs and what is harmful for its wellbeing. So, when you meditate regularly, the active Kundalini makes a positive change in your Vrittis or tendencies as a result of which habits that are harmful for your health leave you of their own accord without any willful effort on your part to give them up.

Question: Is Guru Siyag’s Yoga (GSY) Mantra DikshA (initiation) chargeable? Is there a process of prior registration involved in order to receive Diksha?

Answer: GSY Mantra Diksha is completely free of charge. To receive Diksha the seeker does not have to go through any process of registration.

Question: Is GSY open only to the followers of a certain religion / faith?

Answer: No. GSY is open to people of all faiths, races, castes, sects, nationalities, genders and ages etc. without any discrimination. GSY belongs to the entire mankind.

Question: Are there any side-effects or negative outcomes of Guru Siyag’s Yoga practice?
Answer: Not at all. Under GSY, Guru Siyag awakens the disciple’s Kundalini, which is known as the Mother of the Universe. Just as a mother does not harm her child, the Kundalini too will never let any harm to come to Guru Siyag’s disciples.

Question: How do I know for sure that my Kundalini is awakened when I practice Guru Siyag’s Yoga?
Answer: When the Kundalini is awakened, you will feel her divine presence in your body. You will also experience various Yogic postures and Kriyas during meditation without any effort on your part. You may see divine light or have visions of the unlimited past or future events. You will also experience a positive change in your outlook, behavior and personality. These are all clear indication that your Kundalini is awake, and is bringing about a transformation in you. These are some obvious signs of an awakened Kundalini; there may be other more subtle changes that may manifest over a period of time. The practitioner should not be overly concerned about noticing any specific signs but should instead concentrate solely on doing the practice with sincerity and dedication.

Question: What life style and routine do I need to adopt to practice Guru Siyag’s Yoga?

Answer: You are not required to adopt any special life style or change your routine in any way to practice GSY. You are free to lead life as you did before.

Question: What type of yogic exercises do I need to perform under this yoga system?

Answer: You don’t have to perform any kind of yogic exercises. Yogic postures or movements needed by the body will be induced by the awakened Kundalini without any effort by the practitioner.

Question: Is there any particular dress code for attending Gurudev’s Diksha program?

Answer: There is no dress code. You can wear whatever you like.

Question: Is it necessary to read or learn about Guru Siyag Yoga or Yoga in general before taking Diksha from Gurudev?

Answer: No, you are not required to have any prior knowledge of Yoga or GSY. Just as the sun, wind, rains favor all — whether one is an illiterate person or a scientist — without discrimination, Guru Siyag Yoga too benefits all even when they have no prior knowledge of the practice.

Question: Am I allowed to recommend Guru Siyag Yoga to others? Is this yoga text restricted by Copyright?

Answer: You may recommend GSY to others. You are free to promote Gurudev’s yoga system at your own expense and using your own resources in India as well as abroad. You need not take prior permission for canvassing work. Gurudev disseminates this divine knowledge for free. So others can too.

The Two Websites: Differences

A few disciples have asked us how the GSY website www.gurusiyagyoga.org is different from the-comforter The only difference is that the-comforter site is built on a static platform which makes its existence in multiple languages of the world a little limited. For instance, it is possible to load ‘Method of Meditation’ in several languages but only in a specific format. Making even small changes becomes an uphill task.

On the other hand, gurusiyagyoga.org has been built on a dynamic platform. The entire website is readily available in several languages such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, Hebrew, German, Greek, Arabic, Persian, Swahili, Filipino etc. It was Guru Siyag’s mission to spread the word of the Divine Transformation of all Mankind around the world. gurusiyagyoga.org is dedicated to furthering this cause. There is no need to be confused about this new development. We also request practitioners to log on to the website and see the information given there, and not simply spread rumors or falsehood. Guru Siyag always encouraged all his disciples to propagate his mission. Every disciple is free to use means and methods (that comply with the rules and regulations of the country they reside in) that are suitable to them to promote the mission. In this current world climate of hate and suspicion, it is important that each disciple treats the other with respect and trust, and does not impede or obstruct the mission work in any way.

The gurusiyagyoga.org website contains not only the method of meditation but also Guru Siyag’s philosophy of yoga practice in several world languages mentioned above that can be helpful to practitioners around the world. Besides this, Guru Siyag’s pre-mantra diksha (initiation) speech has been translated in the above-mentioned languages. The translated speech appears as subtitles when the diksha video is played. Furthermore, when a disciple emails the website in his/her native tongue, they will receive a response in the same language. This is all thanks to the network of international disciples around the world who give their valuable time to translate and respond to messages. Google Translate has not been used to translate any material on the website because it does not always correctly interpret data.
