Two indications confirm the experience of Ajapa Japa:
- Usually when we are involved in any activity that requires mental focus, it isn’t possible to chant the mantra. However, when Ajapa Japa occurs, the chanting goes on despite our mind being involved elsewhere. It is almost as if seeing the practitioner’s dedication, the Kundalini takes over the responsibility of chanting herself.
- When we wake up in the middle of night, we become almost instantly aware that the mantra is being chanted.
What to do when this experience occurs?
- First and foremost: enjoy it! When practitioners treat an experience with openness and happiness (instead of suspicion and fear), the impact of that grace grows. In the case of Ajapa Japa, positivity on the part of the seeker leads to an experience of profound joy.
- Guru Siyag advises disciples to pay attention to chanting 7-8 times a day. He says, “When you relentlessly chant the mantra I have given, the chanting becomes involuntary. You cannot stop it even if you try to do so. You will feel as if ‘someone’ in your inner being has assumed the duty of chanting and freed you from the effort. During the course of the day, pay attention to this chanting 7-8 times. That’s all. You don’t need to change your lifestyle or food habits in any way. Nothing is forbidden. The transformation will happen if its own accord.”
