In his own words, Gurudev describes the Khechari Mudra, what it signifies and the importance of chanting the mantra. If you are inspired by Gurudev’s words, share this post; please resist copy-pasting it. When you share the post more people will be drawn to our page here:
“One kind of mudra (spiritual gesture) that practitioners undergo is the Khechari Mudra. In this mudra, the tongue is pulled backwards toward the roof of the mouth (palette) and then touches a point there. When it touches this point, a nectar-like substance is secreted.”
Gorakshnathji (ancient Nath Yogi) referred to this substance as Amrit (Ambrosia / Nectar or elixir of life). In poetic form, he described the Khechari Mudra as an upturned well in the heavenly sphere that secretes nectar. The one who is conscious drinks to his heart’s content while the unconscious goes thirsty. The one who tastes this Amrit gains the knowledge that he is immortal. And if it is Amrit, the question of rebirth does not arise.
“Saint Kabir has compared the body to an earthen pot filled with water. This pot is immersed in water. So, there is water in the pot and also outside it. The clay of the earthen pot begins to disintegrate little by little and soon the pot crumbles completely. As soon as the pot crumbles, the water in the pot and outside it become one. This realization of ‘oneness’ happens only with the grace of the Guru. This body that you value so much is nothing but a pot that will crumble after a while. If you want to be liberated from this cycle of life and death, you must chant the mantra all the time.”
“It is also said, “In Kali Yuga (Age of Falsehood), only chanting the name of God can guide you toward Moksha (liberation).” Guru Nanak has said that intoxication by drugs wears off the next morning but intoxication by chanting never wears off. Saint Kabir has also said that intoxication by chanting does not wear off. Instead, the intoxicating joy it gives grows every day. The mantra you chant given by me will give you an intoxicating joy. It is intoxication without drugs.”
